no starry light dilutes the night
no sunshine cozies day
rain and snow have turned to sleet
and vision’s gone away
the birches bend to find an end
their fingers laying blame
the rivers flow but what they know
is only cause for shame
grownups run to touch the sun
toasting crisp then burned
at end of day in disarray
and nothing has been learned
the books are gone and so is song
and genius exiled
all the fun is come undone
all atoms of the world flung wild
